34th Annual Madison Art Society Members Exhibition and Sale
February 6th - 28th
Scranton Library - Madison Ct
Open to the public

The 34th Madison Art Society Member Show will be open to the public for viewing thoughout the month of February at the Scranton Memorial Library in Madison, Ct. Beth Wardwell and Joe Veckerelli are the co-chairs this year . As in the past, MAS artists will donate 10% of the sale of their paintings to the the library (over $5,000 has been donated in the past few years).
The Receiving Date is Saturday, January 31st, 2009 from 9 -12 at the Scranton Library. Our reception is on Friday, February 6th from 5 – 7 P.M. Open to the public thoughout the month of February.

In addition, the MAS Artist Critique will be held with Lou Bonamarte, a renowned artist, on Sunday, February 8th from 1 – 4 P.M. at the Scranton Library (photo).

Lou Bonamarte began studying with John Pike in 1964 and again in 1968. Prior to then, he was a graphic illustrator and designer before becoming a full time artist. He is one of three people responsible for founding the Lyme Art Academy. Lou has exhibited his paintings thoroughout America and his paintings belong in many private and several corporate art collections such as General Dynamics, Aetna Insurance Company , the Goodspeeed Opera, etc. He has won numerous art awards from the American Watercolor Society, the Salmagundi Artists Association, the American Artist Professional League, the Hudson Valley Art Association as well as many others. Currently, he is also teaching art courses privately and at the Lyme Art Association.

On Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at 6:30, a lecture in the Scranton Library Community Room. Fred Biamonte, docent and lecturer at the New Britain Museum of American Art and Curatorial Research Assistant at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, will be giving a lecture providing the public with a private glance into the life of artist, Edward Hopper. He will present a glimpse into Hopper's life, his disturbing adolescence, and the turbulent relationship with his wife. These experiences fostered themes of loneliness, isolation, voyerism and eroticism in his art. A small donation would be appreciated to offset expenses.
