Dear MAS Members, We received over 300 works of art for our Juried Art Exhibition which is being held at the Scranton Memorial Library, Madison Ct . David Dunlop, our juror, selected one hundred and one works of art from Connecticut artists. We could have easily had enough quality pieces to have twice as many if gallery space allowed it. Thank you for supporting the show. Penny chittenden and John Copelin, our co-chairs for the show were great. We are very lucky to have the excellent volunteers needed to put on a show of this magnitude. The show will be on display from May 3, 2010 until May 28, 2010 during normal library hours. A portion of the proceeds from sales (15%) will be donated to Scranton Memorial Library and towards a scholarship for a talented visual arts high school student. I hope that all of you will attend the reception this Friday, May 7, 2010 from 5 -7 p.m. If your workof art did not get selected, please make sure that you pick it up by this Saturday morning. The History Room must be empty for the library for Monday's scheduled functions. The Madison Art Society will sponsor a demonstration on May 16 by David Dunlop at 1:30 p.m. In addition, an evening poetry reception by the Guilford Poet Guild and MAS will held on May 20 at 7:00 p.m. (open to the public). The poems were inspired by the the show's artwork and will be hung next to the paintings/sculptures.. The juror for the Madison Art Society Art Show was David Dunlop. David will be conducting a demonstration on Capturing Luminoisty in Your Oil Paintings on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at the Scranton Library. A nominal donation to offset expenses would be appreciated and there will be limited seating. David Dunlop has studied the techniques and traditions of "Old Master" paintings from Rembrandt to Turner, and he will share their techniques as well as his own on how to capture luminosity in our paintings. David will demonstrate palette choices, color theories, compositional ideas, and techniques to achieve luminous translucence. David has been a faculty member of the Silvermine Guild Art Center in Connecticut since 1993. He received his MFA from Pratt Institute and has studied and conducted painting and history courses in Japan and Europe . He is host and writer of the 13-week national PBS series, "Landscapes through Time with David Dunlop," which debuted in 2008 and won a Daytime Emmy in Outstanding Special Class Writing in 2009. David is represented in numerous galleries across the United States , his artwork hangs in scores of Fortune 500 art collections, and he has received honors in national art shows. I am excited to announce that we have just added a new pastel and gouche demonstration on our list for the year, Frank Federiccio. We will co-sponsor the event with the Clinton Art Society on Thursday, September 23 at 6:30 p.m. We have sponsored an art scholarship along with Guilford Art League for a promising visual arts high school student. The student selection was coordinated by the Shoreline Alliance of the Arts. The award ceremony was held on Sunday, May 2 at the Kate in Old Saybrook.
