Pastels: An Expressive Medium for all Seasons
Pastels are one of the most expressive and flexible painting mediums. Pure pigments, vivid colors, and ease-of-transport make pastels irrisistable for landscape painting and plein air outings. Diana Rogers will demonstrate techniques to stretch the medium's capabilities and expand the value range of pastels through staining, layering and underpainting. Ideas on how pastels can achieve the light and airy feel of watercolor or the thick and thin stroke variation of oil or acrylic paint will be explored. She will share experiences in using different pastel brands and new products such as Pan Pastels and their impact on the look and feel of a painting.
Diana Rogers is an award-winning landscape painter and pastelist. She prefers the pastel medium for landscape painting because of the pure, intense pigment and finds the medium a perfect complement to the colorful bounty of nature. She views painting the landscape as a direct way to connect with "mother nature" and to show respect for the environment. She lives in Clinton, CT. She is on the board of directors of the Connecticut Pastel Society and is an active member in local art organizations including the Madison Art Society, Lyme Art Association, Clinton Art Society and New Haven Paint and Clay Club.

I always like this kind of landscape paintings very much. Recently I saw landscape paintings in Brent Bailer Gallery. It was awesome.
