MAS Artists


I hope that all of you had a great Thanksgiving Day holiday. Please do not forget to add a gift to yourself on your holiday list. It is time to renew your membership to the Madison Art Society for 2010. We have kept our dues at $25. Our BOD have lots of plans to inspire your creativity. Send your dues to MAS c/o PO Box 1383 Madison Ct 06443. Include your name, address, phone and email plus your choice of a volunteer activity.


MAS Elected Artists - Small Works of Art for the Holidays


Have you stopped by the People's Bank in Madison to look at the small works of art by our MAS Elected Artists yet? It will be on display until January 2, 2010. Elected artists do not forget pick up your paintings that Saturday, January 2, 2010 from 9 until 10.


MAS Winter Studio - Filled


We have 21 artists already signed up to start painting on Monday, January 4, 2010. If you want to be on the sub list, please email me at Bschimeier@yahoo.com. You will be able to paint for the day (2 still lifes are available or you can use your own photo from 9 -3 pm at St. Andrews Church, Madison.


MAS Member Show


We will be dedicating our 35th Annual Member Art Show in memory of Joe Veckerelli, BOD Member and Watercolorist

Prospectus will be sent out at a later time.

Receiving: Saturday, January 30, 2010 from 9:30 am until noon


Entry fee is $10 and you must be a member of good standing with dues paid. External frame size is 40 inches in any direction and please be sensitive when selecting your artwork that it is a venue used by young children.
Reception: Friday- February 6, 2010, 5-7 pm
Critique : Sunday- February 7, 2010, 1 -4 pm by Jack Broderick

Connecticut Impressionism: A Celebration of Beauty

New Britain Museum of American Art educator Fred Biamonte will present the works of the American Impressionists who studied in France , and came home to paint in Connecticut . The talk will highlight images of Connecticut from the art colonies at Cos Cob and Old Lyme by William Chadwick, Charles Davis, Childe Hassam, Ernest Lawson, Elmer MacRae, Willard Metcalf, Theodore Robinson, John Twachtman, and J. Alden Weir.

 
Fred Biamonte has worked for 40 years as a management consultant and taught organization behavior at New York University and Pace University. Since his retirement from the corporate and academic worlds, he has directed his energy to the study of Art History, with a focus on the psychobiographies of American artists. Fred has given recent talks on more than twenty American artists. Fred is married, has three children, and one grandson.


MAS Juried Show - May, 2010. Juror will be David Dunlop and he will be doing a presentation for us on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 1:30 pm at the Scranton Memorial Library.

Demonstration/Lecture – Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 1:30 pm – David Dunlop

Items of Interest to our Members


Madion Town Hall - Madison Art Society Artists of the Months for December are John Carroll and Diana Rogers.
Simply Pearls, Watersedge Resort: Joanne McCarty and BJ Helander's paintings are on display for the month of December. John Tubb's painting are in the resort itself.
Malones Coffee House: Jo McGrath, Nan Iselin, Maryanne Rupp, Gloria Nillsson and Beverly Schirmeier paintings are on display from December until February.
Savvy Tea- Artists art work dedicated to support CLOUT, aid to African women, coordinated by Sandra Kensler.
Branford Land Trust Holiday Art Show: Paintings and photographs by several of our members are on display until December 15 at the Branford Land Trust building located in Stoney Creeek at 26 School Street.
Ventucci Gallery in Westbrook has the paintings of Bernie McTigue, Jennifer Holmes and Lisa Fatone on display.


SAA and the Women and Family LIfe Center Small Works of Art Exhibition.
See attached information for women artists. Exhbition dates December 18,2009 until March 21, 2010. Need to send at least 2 works of art by December 10, 2009 (send a a digital jpg entry for jurying to info@shorelinearts.org.)




Demonstrations open to the public and coordinated by the CT. Plein Air Painters


Our Saturday artist demonstrations are free. They are held at the Hartford Fine Art Gallery is located at 80 Pitkin Street, East Hartford from 11AM to 1PM and is open to artists and art-lovers alike, offering insight into the creative process of artist members. Please call the gallery at 860-528-1409 for more information and for winter weather cancellations.
