The Madison Art Society and the Clinton Art Society are co-sponsoring a pastel demonstration by Anne Heywood on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the Scranton Memorial Library in the Community Room, Madison Ct at 2:00 pm. It is located at 801 Boston Post Road, Route One, Madison, Ct and the public is invited. Nominal donations are appreciated. Anne Heywood is a signature and founding member of the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod, signature member of the Pastel Society of America and the Connecticut Pastel Society, and artist member of the Copley Society, the Salmagundi Club, and the National Association of Women Artists. Her educational background includes a B.A. summa cum laude in art. She is listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Women.
Heywood works in her studios in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and Waldoboro, Maine. She accepts commissions for custom paintings and pet portraits and offers workshops, lectures, and demonstrations. Her works can be found in both national and international corporate and private collections; she is represented by the Wilson & Heywood Gallery in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Anne paints both modern and traditional subjects in realistic yet simple terms, thereby provoking thought while creating a sense of mood and character. Her paintings and drawings are noted for their strong compositions and natural color palettes, as well as their beauty—a reflection of her life spent in New England and Italy.
Heywood is author and illustrator of the book Pastels Made Easy (Watson-Guptill, 2003). She has over 25 years’ experience painting, offering workshops, lectures, and demonstrations. Her paintings and drawings are in private, corporate, and public national and international collections. Heywood is a recipient of the International Association of Pastel Societies’ prestigious Masters Circle Award, along with the Pastel Society of America's Holbein Award, and the Salmagundi Club's George Inness, Jr., Memorial Award. Her paintings, drawings, and writings have been published in international books and magazines such as “Australian Artist”, The Best of Pastel, and “American Artist Magazine”.

Nineteen members of the Madison Art Society Board of Directors will be showcasing their art work during the month of September at the E.C. Scranton Memorial Library in the Community Room located at 801 Boston Post Road, Madison, Ct 06433. The art display will include sculpture, watercolors, oils and pastels that can be viewed during normal library hours throughout the week. As always, the MAS donates a percentage of any sales to the library. Members whose art will be on display are as follows: President- Beverly Schirmeier, Vice Presient - DonTrownsell, Treasurer- Joan McPherson, Co-Secretaries- Nancy Chapman and Maryanne Rupp, Memberships - Maude Schmidt as well as Jay Babina, Patricia Barone, Denise Casey, Penny Chittenden, John Coplein, Paula Emery, Ellen Fabian, Stuart Lerner, Linda Loen, Seymour Page, Patricia Seekamp, John Tubb and Beth Wardwell.
Beverly Schirmeier, President of the Madison Art Society, stated that the art society wanted to dedicate this art show to a former MAS president, James Hight, who died peacefully on Aug. 11, 2012 at his home, surrounded by family in Madison, Ct. He was 88. James was a graphic designer and art director, best known for his award-winning work including iconic and everlasting logo and package designs for Dairy Queen, Phillips 66, Esso, Barbasol, Xerox, International Paper, and Wonder Bread. James attended the Pratt Institute of Art and Design on the GI Bill. This led to work at some of the top agencies in the New York area, including Lester Beall, Lippincott & Margulies, International Paper, and American Can Company. His watercolor, Thimble Island, will also be on display at the library.
