Wishing all of you a very Happy New Year 2011! If you are creating goals for the next year, plan on taking creative time for yourself and renewing your Madison Art Society dues. We have great plans in store for you and we have kept the dues at $25. The address is MAS, P.O. Three paintings were sold at the Elected Artist Small Works Art Show. Congratulations to Bill and Patricia Seakamp and Joan Wallace. Pick up is Tuesday, January 4, 2011 from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Thanks to Sara Nebel for coordinating the event again this year. If you want to exhibit your work at the Madison, Peoples Bank, contact Sara.
Receiving for our 36th Annual Member Show is Saturday, January 29, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Remember the size limit is a 36 inches (max) in any direction (framed) and you must be a current 2011 member with dues paid in full (you can pay that day at Receiving). Maryanne Rupp and Diane Stone are our co-chairpersons for the event. The reception is Friday, February 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. and the Critique by master pastelist, Frank Federicio, is on Sunday, February 6, at 1:30 p.m. On Wednesday, February 16, New Britain Museum of Fine Art educator, Frank Biamonte, will be giving a slide lecture on the Art of John Singer Sargent.
Patricia Seakamp and Ellen Fabian are the new coordinators for the Madison Town Hall. Audrey Fitting and and John Copelin will be exhibiting their art work in January and February.
Please let me know if you will be exhibiting your art in a special gallery or show so we can share it with our members . We like to support each other throughout the year. A special thanks to Jan Blencowe for keeping our website current and Jay Babina who coordinates our newspaper, the MAS Hilights.
We have two co-chairs for our Juried Show, Linda Loen and Nancy Schwartz. They will be seeking members for the various teams needed to put on a show of this magnitude. Receiving for the Juried Show is April 30 from 9:30 a.m. until noon with a Reception on Friday, May 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. We will have a lecture demo on Sunday, May 15 at 1:30 p.m. by water colorist and oil painter, Jerry Caron.
In addition, Winter Studio is completely filled and it will start on Monday, January 10, 2011. Beth Wardwell has 3 additional demonstrations scheduled for the summer, plein air painting will start again in the summer, and outdoor art events will be offered to our artists. I hope you re-join for 2011 and that I will see all of you at these events.

36th Annual Member Exhibition and Sale
January 29 – February 26, 2011 - E.C. Scranton Memorial Library
Eligibility: MAS artists & associates in good standing can enter ONE piece of original artwork.
Unpaid dues may be paid during receiving hours. For questions about dues call Maude
Schmidt at 203-245-0807. Select art work appropriate to be seen by young children.
Receiving: Saturday, January 29, 2011, 9:30 a.m.–12 noon
Hanging: Saturday, January 29, 2010, 1- 4 p.m.
Fees: $10.00 entry fee. MAS also encourages a 10% voluntary donation to the library on sold
works.
Reception: Friday, February 4, 2011, 5–7 p.m.
Critique: E. C. Scranton Library, Sunday, February 6, 2011, 1-4 p.m. - Frank Federico
Pick-up: Friday, February 25, 5-7 p.m. & Saturday, February 26, 9 a.m.- 12 noon
Please mark your calendars and pick up your art work on time. The library
does not have storage space. MAS and the library will not be responsible for
art work left behind.
Entry requirements: Original works in all media (no photography or computer-generated art). No works done under
the guidance of an instructor are eligible. Work must be signed, priced, and framed with screw eyes and wire attached.
“Gallery wrap” canvas without frame will be accepted (if sides are painted as part of the painting). “Not for Sale” works
will be accepted. Sculpture must be steady and accompanied by a safe, free-standing pedestal. Two-dimensional entries
cannot exceed 36 inches in length or width, including the frame. Work cannot have been shown in any previous Scranton
Library show.
The Madison Art Society reserves the right to remove or decline any submitted work for any reason at any time including
inappropriate material. MAS decisions are final. Artwork should be appropriate and sensitive to a venue used by young
children and families. Submission of work and payment of entry fee does not in any way constitute a guarantee of
acceptance of any work submitted.
Identification label (provided below) should be affixed to the lower left of the piece facing out, visible below the frame.
