Many of the Madison Art Society, MAS, artists can be found painting the awe inspiring scenery of Hammonasset Park and a small group of plein painters from MAS would like to have the public admire the park's scenery as seen thorough their eyes on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the Nature Center at Meig's Point. Tents will be set up at 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and the artists will have display racks to showcase their paintings that can be viewed and the artwork will be framed and available for purchase. The artists will be donating a percentage of their sales to the Hammonasset Nature Center to celebrate the park's 90th birthday.
The Madison Art Society is a 501c3 non profit art organization with more than 225 members. There is a strong representation of artists from throughout the shoreline from New Haven to Old Lyme. MAS provides support and exhibition opportunities for artist at all levels of experience in Madison and in the surrounding towns. They provide interaction within the art community to help in stimulating and motivating creativity. The community is invited to art exhibitions, their member art show, and jury show. The public can attend MAS art demonstrations by award winning artists given throughout the year. In addition to sponsoring a college scholarship to a high school student, the MAS artists donate a percentage of their outdoor show art sales to other non-profit organizations like the Friends of Hammonasset, the Scranton Memorial Library, the Deacon John Grave Historical House and the Madison Exchange Club for scholarships.
