Madison Art Society announces an oil painting demonstration by noted painter Frank Bruckman

On Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 6:30 PM the Madison Art Society will host an oil painting demonstration by noted painter Frank Bruckman. The event will be held at Madison Senior Center, 29 Bradley Road, Madison, CT. The demonstration is free and open to the public.

Frank Bruckman discovered painting in his 20's while living in his native state New Jersey. Compelled by the seductive properties of oil paints he began studying at the DuCret School of Art and at the Art Student's League in New York City. He knew he'd embarked upon a lifelong career after being encouraged by art collectors and professors to continue study abroad. In Paris he studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and the Paris Academy. In addition, Frank copied paintings at the Musee D'Orsay and the Louvre to better understand the techniques of many Great Masters from Frans Hals to Cezanne. Later in Madrid Frank copied at the Museo de Prado reproducing many painters including Velasques and El Greco.

While abroad Frank made his living as an artist by selling his local landscapes and museum reproductions and also by modeling for figure classes. After participating in a number of group shows and his own exhibitions he returned to the United States in 1990. Upon arrival Bruckman was offered an artist's studio in South Norwalk, Connecticut and while there discovered the very paintable Connecticut shoreline.

Soon after through art guilds and galleries he made connections and began showing his work in both New Jersey and Connecticut and throughout New England. Frank was recognized with awards such as The Weiss Sisters Award (2001) (2006) (2012), The coveted Grumbacher Medal Award (2004), First Prize Jurors Award (2006) and Elizabeth Prast Award (2008) all at the New Haven Paint and Clay Club and The Brush and Palette Club.

Frank lives with his family in the Westville section of New Haven, Connecticut an area known for its culturally rich and diverse artsy population. His gallery representations include two of New Haven's prominent galleries; Keller Liddell Gallery and Elm City Artists. In addition you will find Frank Bruckman at the Citywide Open Studios and the Westville Village Artwalk. Both are New Haven annual events. His subjects include Monhegan Island, Maine where he leads a group of painters in the summer months, Nova Scotia, Florida, St. Barth, Mexico, Colorado and the bucolic landscapes of Pennsylvania. His work is included in many American and International collections.

This demonstration is a unique opportunity to meet a very talented artist during a very active time of his painting career. Please come early as space is limited.
