The Madison Art Society will hold its 42nd Annual Juried Exhibition and Sale May 1-26 2017 at the Scranton Memorial Library, 801 Boston Post Road, Madison. The exhibition, open to all Connecticut fine artists over the age of 18, features work in all media. Submitted works will be selected for exhibition by juror and winner of last year's Best in Show prize, Del-Bourree Bach.
There are several community events scheduled in conjunction with the exhibit. On Sunday, May 7, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. William Lustenader, adjunct professor at Sacred Heart University and Albertus Magnus College will present an art lecture entitled " The Birth of the Baroque: The Legacies of Caravaggio and Annibale Carracci in 17th century Art. The public is invited and the lecture is free.
The opening reception and awards ceremony will be Thursday May 11, 5-7 p.m. The reception is a good time to meet the artists, see the exhibit and support local art.
Wednesday May 24, 6:30 p.m. is a popular poetry reading by members of the Guilford Poets Guild. The poets visit the art exhibit and select works that inspire poems. At the reading the poets share their work while the art is displayed. It is always interesting to hear how the visual art influences the written art, even how the same work can influence more than one poet in different ways.
The Madison Art Society thanks the members of the Madison business community who donated awards and prizes for the show. Their support is greatly appreciated by the artists.
