SANDRA E. SMITH
 Misty Morning

Well known as a “plein air” landscape oil painter, Sandra maintains a studio in Killingworth.  Her artistic goal has always been to record the Connecticut shoreline area’s disappearing landscape, especially the marshes, fields, old barns, and farms.  She particularly loves to paint historic scenes that tell a story, such as her great uncle in World War I, the old one-room schoolhouses, the beautiful state parks we all enjoy in today’s world,  or the new replacement barn at Bauer Farm Park.  She is an elected artist of Madison Art Society, Clinton Art Society, and associate member of Old Lyme Art Association. Sandra can be reached at 860-663-1583.

MARYANNE RUPP

Lace Patterns
Maryanne retired a few years ago as a Hospice nurse and now paints full time. Although working with both pastels and oils, she considers herself primarily a pastelist, enjoying the pure, intense color and spontaneity that is possible with that medium.  Although she has painted most of her life, her art education has been informal but ongoing.  Most of her classes have been through the Lyme Art Association with Joann Ballinger, Karen Winslow, Lou Bonamarte, Chistine Ivers, Leah Lopez,  Kathy Anderson, and Richard McKinley.  She feels blessed to have teachers who have been willing to share their knowledge and encourage students of all levels.
She is a member of the Connecticut Pastel Society, Lyme Art Association, Clinton Art Society, Mystic Art Center , and Madison Art Society where she serves on the Board of Directors.  She has exhibited with all of the previous associations, being accepted into many of their juried exhibitions over the last 8 years.  She was accepted into the CPS national juried show, Renaissance in Pastel, held at the Mattatuck Museum, Waterbury, for the last three years.  In 2011, she was juried into the New Britain Museum of American Art Member Show, where she recently completed their docent training program. Recently, she was juried into the Academic Artist exhibit  held at AIC in Springfield, MA.  She had a solo show at Pacific Street Gallery, New London; shown at Gallery 33, New London; Gallery 85 Main St., the Cooley Gallery’s Holiday Show, NBMAA, Florence Griswold Palette Tree, and other local venues.  Recently, jurors have commented on her command and understanding of the pastel medium and her ability to convey the nuances of light and texture with sensitivity.  She is able to achieve a sense of atmosphere and depth, whether in still life or landscape.  She can be reached at Phone: 860-663-3789 or rupp@snet.net
