MAS NEWS Jan. 2012 & Members Show Prospectus

Wishing all of you a very Happy New Year 2012! If you are creating goals for the next year, plan on taking creative time for yourself and renewing your Madison Art Society dues if you have not done it already. We have great plans in store for you and we have kept the dues at $25. The address is MAS, P.O. Box 1383, Madison, Ct 06443. Remember that it is time to take down for the Elected Artist Small Works Art Show on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Thanks to Sara Nebel for coordinating the event again this year. If you want to exhibit your work at the Madison, Peoples Bank, contact Sara.
Who said that Feburary is a boring month has not seen our schedule. You may want to look at it closely when you are planning your Florida vacations. Receiving for our 37th Annual Member Show is Saturday, January 28, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Remember the art needs to be appropriate to be seen by the young children and families that use the Scranton Memorial Library Community Room.. The size limit is a 36 inches (max) in any direction (framed) and you must be a current 2012 member with dues paid in full (you can pay that day at Receiving). Pat Barone, Paula Emery and Stuart Lerner are our co-chairpersons for the event. The reception is Tuesday January 31 from 6:15 - 8 :15 p.m. and our Critique will be conducted well known water-colorist and oil painting artist, Lou Bonamarte, which is scheduled on Sunday, February 12, at 1:30 p.m at the Scranton Memorial Library. On Wednesday, February 22, 2012, New Britain Museum of Fine Art educator, Frank Biamonte, will be giving a slide lecture on the Art of Winslow Homer starting at 6:30 pm. We are honored to announce a special watercolor demonstration by internationally known artist and author, Charles Reid, which is scheduled for Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 2:15 at the Old Memorial Hall located on Route One in Madison. we will be requesting a minimum donation of $5 for this demonstration to offset costs. We have just purchased an overhead mirror to improve our demonstrations so they can be seen from the back.
Patricia Seakamp is the coordinator for the Madison Town Hall. Sara Nebel and Nancy Armstrong will be exhibiting their art work in January and February.
Please let me know if you will be exhibiting your art in a special gallery or show so we can share it with our members . We like to support each other throughout the year. A special thanks to Jan Blencowe for keeping our website current and Jay Babina who coordinates our newspaper, the MAS Hilights.
We have one of the two co-chairs needed for our Juried Show, Marge Casey and we need another one ASAP. Please contact me at bschirmeier@yahoo.com if you are willing to volunteer. It is important that I hear from someone ASAP. I will be more than happy to assist you and provide the procedures that have been written for each sub chair and the team activities. The co-chairs will be seeking members needed to put on a show of this magnitude. Receiving for the Juried Show is Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. until noon with a Reception on Sunday, May 6, 2012 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm Plein air oil painter, David Lussier, will be our juror and he will also be doing a demonstration for us on Sunday June, 3, 2012 at 2:15 pm at the Old Memorial Town Hall in Madison. We will have a pastel lecture demonstration planned on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at the Scranton Memorial Library by well known pastelist, Clayton Buchanon.
Winter Studio is completely filled and it will start on Monday, January 9, 2012. Beth Wardwell has additional demonstrations scheduled for the summer, plein air painting will start again in the summer, and outdoor art events will be offered to our artists. I hope you re-join for 2012 and that I will see all of you at these events.

37th Annual Member Exhibition and Sale
January 28 – February 25, 2012 - E.C. Scranton Memorial Library
Eligibility: 
MAS artists & associates in good standing can enter ONE piece of original artwork.
Unpaid dues may be paid during receiving hours. For questions about dues call Maude
Schmidt at 203-245-0807. Select art work appropriate to be seen by young children.
Receiving:
Saturday, January 28, 2012, 9:30 a.m.–12 noon
Hanging:
Saturday, January 28, 2012, 1- 4 p.m.
Fees:
$10.00 entry fee. MAS also encourages a 10% voluntary donation to the library on sold
works.
Reception:

Please mark your calendars and pick up your art work on time. The library
does not have storage space. MAS and the library will not be responsible for
art work left behind.
Entry requirements:
Original works in all media (no photography or computer-generated art). No works done under
the guidance of an instructor are eligible. Work must be signed, priced, and framed with screw eyes and wire attached.
“Gallery wrap” canvas without frame will be accepted (if sides are painted as part of the painting). “Not for Sale” works
will be accepted. Sculpture must be steady and accompanied by a safe, free-standing pedestal. Two-dimensional entries
cannot exceed 36 inches in length or width, including the frame. Work cannot have been shown in any previous Scranton
Library show. Fee $10.
The Madison Art Society reserves the right to remove or decline any submitted work for any reason at any time including
inappropriate material. MAS decisions are final. Artwork should be appropriate and sensitive to a venue used by young
children and families. Submission of work and payment of entry fee does not in any way constitute a guarantee of
acceptance of any work submitted.
Identification label (provided below) should be affixed to the lower left of the piece facing out, visible below the frame.
