The Madison Art Society to host a monoprint demonstration by artist John Massimino

The Madison Art Society will host a monoprint demonstration by artist John Massimino on June 2, 2016 at 6:30.  The demo will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the Madison Senior Center, 29 Bradley Road, Madison. Traditional forms of printmaking produce a series of prints in an edition.  Editions are comprised of multiple prints.
A monoprint is just as the word implies; the process produces only one print. It is an art form that has an element of surprise and serendipity. Degas favored monoprints, often working over them with pastels.

John Massimino is an accomplished artist whose work has been honored all over the world.  Presently, he conducts critique classes as well as workshops in creative design, color, drawing and painting.  After receiving his BFA from Hartford Art School, John travelled throughout the continental United States, Italy and Hawaii as an artist, teacher, lecturer and juror.  He taught at Paier College of Art for 20 years and remains a visiting professor.  He is past president of the New Haven Paint and Clay Club.

Poetry night at the Art Show is a combined creative event of the Guilford Poets Guild and the Madison Art Society.  It will occur on Thursday, May 26 in the community room of the Scranton Memorial Library, 801 Boston Post Road, Madison, CT. The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m.  This popular event is held in conjunction with the Madison Art Society's 41st annual juried exhibition.
Hanging Out, oil by Betsey Piner

The poets of the guild write poems inspired by the artworks on display and read them while the audience views the piece of art.  The poems range from humorous to serious and are read with great feeling when presented by their authors.  Artists whose work has been selected by poets have likened the poetry reading to winning an award.
poem:  Not Counting by Jane Muir
Last year, Betsey Piner's painting "Hanging Out",  of laundry on a clothesline inspired the poem written by Jane Muir entitled " Not Counting".

The public is invited to attend this special evening.

The exhibit, featuring artwork in all fine art mediums, was open to all Connecticut artists over the age of 18. Juror, James Magner, selected the 75 works on display from a fine selection of 160 entries.

The award for Best in Show went to Del-Bouree Bach of Mystic for his painting entitled Light of the Silvery Moon.
Second Place: Hammonasset Roll by Judy Perry, pastel

Third Place: Stephen's Journey by Judy Gay, pastel
Second place was awarded to Judy Perry of Old Saybrook for her pastel, Hammonasset Roll. Clinton artist, Judy Gay was awarded Third place for her portrait, Stephen's Journey.
Juror, James Magner wrote the following comments about the top award winning work.  "Light of the Silvery Moon" commands attention with its strong composition.  The dramatic shape of the dune is balanced and highlighted by the moon and its soft light.  One of the loftiest goals of a painting is to convey an emotional response in the viewer.  Upon looking at this painting, I am left with a feeling of stability and tranquility."

The Madison Art Society is very grateful for the strong support of the Madison business community. Their generous donations combined with the society's resources allowed the Madison Art Society to offer over $3000 in awards. The show can be viewed in the Community Room at the library until May 27.
